Pulmonary Medicine

Pulmonary Medicine refers to many lung disorders including asthma, COPD, influenza, pneumonia, lung cancer, and tuberculosis. These disorders share common symptoms such as chronic cough and shortness of breath. Mid-South Pulmonary Specialists, P.C. has 19 providers specializing in the treatment of pulmonary disorders. We provide a continuum of care for the patient both in the clinic and in seven area hospitals allowing us to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients.

Pulmonary Services

Bronchoscopy

A procedure that allows the physician to look inside the airways and lungs through an instrument called a bronchoscope.


Bronchial Thermoplasty

An outpatient procedure to improve asthma-related quality of life for people with severe asthma by reducing asthma attacks.


Chest X-ray

Used to produce images of your heart, lungs, blood vessels, and the bones of your chest and spine. It can also show if there is fluid in and around the lungs.


CT Scanning

A series of X-ray images taken from different angles which uses a computer to create slices of the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues inside the body.


Endobronchial Stents

A procedure that places a device within narrowed airways to keep them open.


Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

A procedure used in the diagnosis of lung cancer, lung infections, and other diseases that cause enlarged lymph nodes or chest masses.


Methacholine Challenge

A medical test used to assist in the diagnosis of asthma. The patient breathes in methacholine or histamine.


Navigational Bronchoscopy

A procedure that helps physicians access hard to reach areas of the lung, aiding in the diagnosis of lung diseases, and lung cancer.


Pulmonary Function Test

A group of tests that measure how well the lungs are working. It includes how well a person is able to breathe and how effective the lungs are able to bring oxygen to the rest of the body.


Pulmonary Stress Test

A test used to measure the level of oxygen in the blood while walking.


Spirometry

A test used to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, exhale, and how quickly you exhale. It’s commonly used to diagnose asthma, COPD, and other respiratory problems.


Transthoracic Ultrasound

A non-invasive procedure utilizing ultrasonography to aid in diagnosing many respiratory diseases.
